Volkswagen plans to launch an affordable electric car with a starting price of €20,000 ($21,729 / £17,020) in 2027. Although the details are still being kept secret, it is known that the board of directors has already approved this project. The company has been working for a long time to offer compact and affordable electric cars in the price category of around 20,000 euros.

More information is expected closer to launch. The line will include compact cars and crossovers from Volkswagen, as well as an SUV from Skoda and a car from Cupra. All four models will be built in Spain, and at least some of them will cost less than €25,000 ($27,150 / £21,277).

Nio says that all of the company's models can now be purchased for 70,000 yuan ($9,700) cheaper without the battery. According to Reuters, Onvo will use BYD's cheaper 60kWh LFP Blade batteries. It has been officially confirmed that the L60 will have a range of 555 km under CLTC terms. It is important to note that Onvo is not the only manufacturer that will use batteries from BYD in 2024.

The Onvo L60 SUV was unveiled on May 15 and is already available for pre-order. Nio CEO William Lee said the L60 will surpass Xiaomi's SU7 in terms of orders, which garnered nearly 90,000 pre-orders in the first 24 hours after launch.
